The Lakeland Hawks (5-6) battled it out with the Kellogg Wildcats (2-4) in a non-conference game at Gorton Field on April 12. The Hawks were feeling it Friday night, taking the win 15-5 and starting a two-game win streak. In April 2023, the Hawks beat the Wildcats 10-5, and the second annual win feels better.
The Hawks looked to Raiston Ellwood in the first inning as he started the game off on the mound, shutting down the Wildcats and holding them to two runs in three innings.
On the other hand, the Hawk’s offense was getting busy from the start, putting four on the board in the first inning, and that was only the beginning.
Heading into the fourth inning, the Hawks put Evan Shanley on the mound to put the game away and seal the deal for the Hawks. The Wildcats would score none for the rest of the game, and the Hawks scored six, moving the game out of reach for Kellogg.
The Hawks hope these last couple of wins could spark something unique to finish the season with. The team is itching to bring home a title this year, and if they keep this attitude and play style up, they should have a pretty good shot.
The Hawks will play their next game on April 15 at 4 p.m at home against the Bonners Ferry Badgers, looking to extend this win streak.
