In the current day and age of “screenagers” and “IPad kids,” it is a well-known fact that we are glued to our screens, and I think humanity has kind of accepted that, but it is important that we at least get some enjoyment out of our unfortunate fate.
With apps such as TikTok, most of the time people spend on their phones is spent watching videos or scrolling through social media, and there is less and less mobile game playing, even in the younger age groups. As a kid, I was constantly playing games on any phone I could get my hand on, but I have grown out of that habit up until recently.
Lately, I have found myself greeted with a lot of downtime, resulting in my downloading an old favorite game of mine onto my phone.
The game in question is called Good Pizza, Great Pizza, and it is a relatively simple game targeted at kids.
“I like Good Pizza, Great Pizza because it provides a unique but calming gaming experience, and it is my livelihood,” Amelia Hamburger said.
Like most games, it follows a base storyline. In this case, you are the owner of a new pizza restaurant that has moved across the street from another pizza place, and the owner quickly becomes your enemy and tries to take down the business. You must learn skills and grow a customer base to become a superior pizza restaurant.
The game is full of fun quirks, such as strange customers who ask for free pizzas or people who want to trade you mystery items in return for a pizza. It is also expected to get a unique or out-of-the-ordinary order with requests from customers wanting their pizza uncut or baked several times.
One of my favorite aspects of this game is how realistic it is regarding the small details. You can see the money you spend on each spoonful of sauce and slice of pepperoni in real time as you use toppings and supplies. With this info, you can also see how much overall profit you made each day’s end. The game also follows a realistic timeline with the opening and closing of the restaurant and the way time passes as you take and make orders.
As you earn money through customers and do challenges, you can buy things to upgrade your restaurant’s decor, promotion, and product, allowing you to personalize it slightly.
“I like the animation and how clean it looks, and you don’t just get everything. You have to buy most of it, and I like how you can change the styles and colors of things,” Riley Clement said.
Overall, it sounds like your usual run-of-the-mill game, and it is amusing as you try to make the sometimes obscure pizzas and fight it out with your neighbor competitor.
This game makes time seemingly fly, keeps me incredibly engaged, and captivates me with both the story and characters built in. This game also features different levels that unlock more types of pizzas and characters, but I have yet to reach them.
