The Lakeland Hawks tennis team suffered a devastating loss against the Coeur d’Alene Vikings on April 8. The Vikings took 11 of the 12 matches.
“I think the tennis match went pretty well; everyone played good matches. Toby Tebbe and Shelby Wear won and are undefeated as a team,” head coach William Ryan said. “I think our serving needs to get better, and some of our aggressiveness coming to the net at play.”
Tebbe and Wear were the only tennis players to take the win (6-3) and continue their doubles-winning streak.
Despite the challenging matches, the Lakeland Hawks are determined to use these experiences as stepping stones for improvement, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the sport.
Lauren and London Peterson came close in their matches, only losing 7-5.
“I feel like my sister and I are definitely improving; we had a lot of good serves, and we hit a lot of aces,” London Peterson said. “I think we can improve our game up at the net and try and hit those really hard ones that go in between us.”
Brock Raebel, despite the setback, has shown a strong resolve to identify his areas of improvement and is committed to rigorous practice sessions, aiming for a triumphant comeback.
“I did not play well at all yesterday; there were shots I should have been making that I was not going for,” Raebel said. “I need to be more aggressive. When I’m aggressive, I play better. I just need to not play it safe.”
