Spring has sprung and with that people are switching over their radio and playlists to upbeat songs that are perfect for the season.
It’s no new thing that people’s music taste tends to change with the seasons. I tend to listen to slow and gloomy songs as the weather gets cold as it simply fits the vibe of life more suitably. As the weather warms up, it’s fitting to say that my music does too.
Fearless (Taylor’s Version) by Taylor Swift is an absolute classic and could not be better for this time of year. It is a bright and fun album with great songs such as “Love Story,” “Hey Stephen,” “Jump Then Fall,” and “Today Was a Fairytale” to name a few out of the 26 tracks.
Fearless is packed with beautiful imagery and detailed lyrics. Anyone can find a way to relate to this album. “Today Was a Fairytale” is my absolute favorite song from this album to play as the weather warms up.
It so perfectly describes a love that can only exist in the spring and Swift constantly describes a sense of magic in the air. The overall aesthetic of Fearless also encapsulates spring with the photoshoots done for it along with the music videos. It’s impossible for me to listen to this album without being filled with excitement for spring.
Harry’s House is another great album for spring. This album has such incredible lyrics and a unique sound, especially for the artist Harry Styles. All thirteen tracks are perfect for spring even if listeners are feeling a bit bummed, Styles has got them covered.
Many songs on this album have such an upbeat sound to them but the lyrics could not be anymore deep and saddening. “Daylight” is such a great example of this as it is a song I can’t help but dance to in some way or another but the lyrics are full of yearning for love. Styles sings “if I was a bluebird, I would fly to you” which, while it may be random, fills me with warmth thinking about birds chirping in the morning and the love he describes.
“Satellite” is another great song off this album just in time for spring. While by itself the song is already a fun listen the fans of Styles have made it an even more enjoyable experience with the associations created around it. It’s impossible to listen to “Satellite” and not jump and dance.
Hozier is another artist who has always had a knack for creating a beautiful aesthetic and using intense imagery.
While it is different from the last two albums I’ve recommended for spring, Wasteland Baby is absolutely perfect. I love to listen to songs like “Almost (Sweet Music),” “No Plan” and “Would That I” around springtime.
“Would That I” might as well be the national anthem for springtime with the opening lyrics being “true that I saw her hair like the branch of a tree willow dancing on air before covering me.” It is nearly impossible to not think of the beauty of nature as everything begins to bloom and grow.
I think “Would That I” is such a gorgeous and complex song full of careful lyricism and meanings. Wasteland Baby overall has such a beautiful sound to it and coupled with the other tracks and detailed album artwork it’s a great experience to listen to on a calm spring day.
Another great listen for spring is the EP Sunset Season by Conan Gray. This album encapsulates the feeling of going out late during the spring as the warm night begins and everyone is getting out of their house to enjoy the late evenings.
“Idle Town” is the opening track for this album and it portrays that vibe perfectly with the lyrics in the bridge being “springtime when the air is thin, we’re getting antsy and they’re noticing, while everybody’s off partying, we’re watching stars over ice-cream.” With lyrics like that this, EP is beautiful and fits the feeling everyone falls into during spring where you want to mindlessly drive around as if in search of summer.
