Landree Simon has earned the Hawk Award for the second consecutive year. The Hawk Award is awarded to the best girl’s basketball player at Lakeland High School.
Landree Simon scored 472 points with 147 rebounds and 87 steals in her junior season. Landree has been playing basketball for 12 years. She has played on varsity since she was a freshman, allowing her to play with her older sister, Kenna for two years at Lakeland.
“My dad has pushed me the hardest; if he did not push me how he has, I would not be where I am today. My favorite memory of the sport was playing with my sister,” Landree Simon said, “My biggest inspiration is definitely my family; they have inspired me throughout many years.”
Landree has shown a lot of improvement from sophomore to junior year; her three-point shooting percentage improved from 19.6% to 33.6%.
“There is not a specific skill I would like to work on,” Simon said. “I would just like to work on every part of my game so I can improve as a player for next year. My favorite part of basketball is playing with my teammates and the friendships that come out of the sport.”
Getting the Hawk Award is a considerable accomplishment; getting it twice in a row is fantastic. It shows how much skill she truly has.
“I am hoping to play basketball at the college level after high school,” Simon said.
