Spring is coming in a sprint, and the 2024 Lakeland Track season is behind it.
Track and field is one of the most exciting parts of the whole school year for most athletes, and it is finally here.
Regarding track and field, there is an event for everyone, which is why it is so popular. For example, Peyton Sardinha, a Lakeland High School athlete, runs the 400 as his main event, which fits him perfectly.
“I have good endurance and keep a fast pace during my races,” Sardinha said.
Sardinha and many others are ready to compete in this new season.
On March 15, the team will compete in the annual Sweenie Invite, and they are more than prepared.
Last year’s track team had a fantastic season, with the boys 4×1 breaking many records along with the girls. This year’s 4×1 has some big shoes to fill, and they are prepared to do so.
The track brings many good rivals and competitions for these athletes.
“Timberlake is my favorite team to compete against because it’s a good competition and always a fun time,” Noah Bodak said.
LHS track and field is a very successful program that has sent multiple athletes to state competitions.
This year, the track team will also be adding javelin to their activities after it became legal at the high school level in June 2023.
They are looking forward to this season when they can continue this tradition.
