The Lakeland High School athletic program is making technological advancements in its HUDL program.
There will be a camera in the main gym and on the football field. Every head coach at LHS will get their own paid HUDL account.
“It is an additional increase to our financial investment for our athletic offerings, but we think the return will be worth it,” LHS athletic director Matt Neff said. “Numerous coaches have asked for more options. In most cases, I try to accommodate the needs of our coaches, and if they think it is a difference maker, I’m going to try to provide them with the tools they need to be successful.”
HUDL is a live game feed used in a variety of sports to rewatch film. HUDL has improved streaming speeds to allow teams to watch plays that just happened on the sideline.
HUDL also provides an online live stream of the game.
“I’m hoping that it improves our winning,” softball coach Dwayne Curry said. “I’m pretty excited to have HUDL. It will help us keep updated stats and videos; it will let me do a lot of things that I can’t do right now through NFHS.”
“I feel great; I am a 90s guy, so it is going to be new for me. I am getting up to speed with the newer technology,” LHS head football coach Mike Schroeder said. “It will be able to film from the sideline and give us a better idea of what we are doing with our video prep and scouting.”
Tim Kiefer is one of the LHS track coaches. He has been looking into HUDL for quite a few years.
“It looks like it is quite a bit easier to use than what we had before; it appears it will be quite a bit more user-friendly than the previous one,” Kiefer said. “I am a firm believer that video replay is the most important thing as a coach. I think the coaches can explain things better. They can even demonstrate that this is what you did wrong or right.”
HUDL will make an extreme difference in the athletic program and hopefully improve the outcome of the games.
“It is going to be essential for every sports program. We can break down our players and give us scouting reports for our opponent,” LHS head baseball coach Al Bevacqua said. “It will give us a leg up.”
