With over 100 new awards from sports, hundreds of new students from all around, and loads of new and improved editions, Lakeland High School has changed a lot since the start of the millennium.
Over the past twenty-four years, LHS has had a massive influx of students. These students have come from all over the US and worldwide.
“When I went to school in 2002, we had about 500 students at LHS, but now we have over 800 students this year,” Dustin Frank, assistant principal, said.
Even though new students come from all around and there are abundant students, LHS’s student character has never changed.
“The people may have changed, but the character has not changed,” said Mr. Frank.
LHS has also had the honor of having foreign exchange students from many places, including France and Germany, which was something that was not as common twenty-four years ago as it is now.
With 120 new awards from sports, LHS has had enormous achievements over the past twenty-four years.
Winning 120 awards from districts, state sportsmanship awards and state championships is a massive accomplishment for LHS. LHS has a diverse athletic program with multiple awards coming from all sports.
Along with winning sports awards, LHS has considerably improved its athletic facilities.
A new track, indoor batting cages and an improved weight room are some of the many improvements made since the start of the millennium.
These improvements have enabled athletes at LHS to train in better conditions for longer.
This allows athletes to put in the time and effort necessary to get better at anything they do.
One of the most significant changes since 2000 was the edition of the more extensive, newer gym. This gym allows LHS to have more space to hold a series of events.
From sports events to assemblies, the new and bigger gym allows LHS to hold more people inside the gym, which allows more people to get into the school.
Even though it has been twenty-two years since Frank was a student at LHS, he still knows that nothing has changed in the character of the school’s students and faculty.
This shows that LHS has a contagious personality that has been passed down from many years of prior students and faculty, ultimately leading to a better-developed character in LHS.
The auxiliary gym is LHS’ first gymnasium and has seen a lot of changes since 2000.
Just last year, new bleachers were put into it to give spectators and students a more comfortable and stable seat while watching events or just a spot to rest during lunch.
More changes are expected to happen since LHS was able to pass their levies in May.
A couple of things that are planned to happen are $180,000 worth of upgrades to the shop, bathrooms in the soccer field, and Hudl, a program to help improve LHS’s football by showing replays in real time.
One of the most noticeable changes has been the series of murals that have been painted in the gyms. The aux and new gym have been painted with many new paintings to show LHS’ school pride.
