The Lakeland Hawks 2024 Softball season is getting ready, and there is nothing but excitement from players and coaches.
With a 7-18 record last year, the Hawks are looking for improvement.
“Team Bonding is huge this season,” Mia Kesner said.
A team is a family. The closer they are, the better you will play.
Head Coach Dwayne Curry is more than ready for this season and has some expectations for his girls this year.
“The players have set the goal of winning districts and going to state,” Curry said. “Shoot for the stars and land on the moon is a saying many teams follow to keep expectations and goals high.”
With expectations set, the excitement sets as well.
“I am excited to see the growth of the freshman that made the varsity team last year, and I am excited to see the JV continue to build on their incredible undefeated season last year,” Curry said.
Last season, they had some young talent that helped the team grow plenty, and this year, he is ready for them to evolve into even better players than they already are.
“This season, I’m going to work on being more of a leader,” Delilah Zimmerman said. Another freshman on varsity last year who is returning this year is Kesner, and she is ready for this year’s competition.
“I’m ready for the competition Moscow will bring this year and Timberlake,” Kesner said.
Last season, the Hawks kicked off their season opener with the Timberlake Tigers, but to switch things up, they will be playing Frenchtown in Montana this season. Game day is on March 28 and March 29.
“The teams are ready to get on the dirt,” Curry said.
With Idaho weather, the teams have been inside for practice recently, and they are more than happy to get out on that diamond.
“We went through a little bit of a rebuilding year last year, having four freshmen on the varsity team, and we are all excited to see how the hard work and hard lessons learned last year will pay off this year,” Curry said. “I believe our JV team has improved a great deal and I am expecting big things from them again this year.”
A team’s offseason is enormous for the coming years, and young talent is always good. The Hawk’s JV team went undefeated last year, and they are ready for their varsity shine this season.
