Gas prices are finally below $3 in The Kootenai County area.
This is great news for teenagers, especially those recently obtaining their licenses.
Having the new freedom of driving alone, teens want to go out with their friends, but that requires gas. There is little to do in the town we live in. So, that means even more gas is being used.
Having to pay for gas as a new driver is another added stress on top of all the other ones new drivers have.
With spring break approaching, gas prices will likely remain below the $3 mark as people prepare for road trips.
According to the Coeur D’ Alene press, the gasoline stocks have been 20 percent higher than last year in the past couple of weeks.
Generally, during the election year, gas prices drop.
“I work in Coeur D’ Alene, so it has been nice to have to spend less money on gas, especially because I have more money to spend on hair and nails,” Leah Sphuler said.
The decrease is because the demand for gas is also decreasing while production is rising price per barrel, leading to more fuel than what is needed.
Other reasons that gas may increase are state taxes, the refining process and weather.
“I have felt less stress due to the reduced prices because now I do not have to use my whole paycheck for gas,” Isabella Peterson said.
The refining process is where crude oil is refined into gasoline. This process can be interrupted or postponed depending on the weather. The weather affects this because most refineries are on the Gulf Coast, which experiences extreme weather, such as hurricanes.
Gas decreasing is excellent news for truck companies and transportation corporations. This is because they are now spending less money on fuel.
This is good because they can spend more money on equipment, tools and parts.
This is good for traveling jobs as well. People who travel for work spend a ton of money on gas. Some companies cover this expense, but some do not. Either way, it is great because now they have more money in their pocket.
