The Lakeland Hawks Cheer team made the two-and-a-half-hour drive to Lewiston High School on Feb. 10. The Hawks were able to capture the 4A District Title for the sixth year in a row.
The Hawks took first place in the sideline and pom category. They also took second in the all-girl Show category.
The team had to check in at 10 a.m., so instead of making the drive that morning and being tired and sore from the bus ride, the Hawks made the bus ride down the night before and stayed at a local hotel to make sure that they were well rested going into such a big competition.
Senior Charlie Dickerson was happy with how it went.
“I think we did good,” Dickerson said. “There were some things that we could have practiced more, but overall, I think we did good.”
Head coach Cynthia Peck was also very proud of how the competition went. She is proud of how hard her team worked to get to this point.
“It was a good year,” Peck said. “It was really good to come out on top as district champions, and I am excited for the state competition.”
Once the routines were completed, the Hawks went down to the mat and waited in their circle to hear their name called. It is a feeling an athlete will never forget–being crowned the district champion.
The state competition will take place on Feb. 23 to 24 at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.
