The Lakeland Hawks wrestlers have lost to the Post Falls Trojans for well over a decade. They had another dual at Post Falls High School on Feb. 8 and they lost 52-21.
The Hawks had a lot of tough matches and were able to put some points on the scoreboard against the Post Falls wrestlers, but they were not able to overcome the losing streak.
Thayer Sabatke said the matches were close and that Post Falls was able to pull ahead by one or two points. As an individual, he plans to work on moving around more, not stopping midshot and keeping driving.
Carson Leonard and Logan Loaiza wrestled at 113 pounds, and Leanord pinned Loaiza in the second period.
Duke Williamson and Geoff Brooks wrestled against each other at 120 pounds, and Williamson won by decision 2-0.
Williamson said as a team, they needed to mentally prepare better before the dual because they were losing matches that they should not have been losing. As an individual, he can work harder.
Ernie Steele went up against Kyden Martin at 220 and won by a pin in the second period.
Carter Vanak went up against Xander Scholes at 285 and won by a pin in the third period.
Carter Vanak said they needed not to get pinned as much, and the score would have been more even. As an individual, he thinks he needs to take more shots.
After a tough loss against Post Falls, the boys will continue training for Districts on Feb. 17 at Sandpoint High School.
