Many skiers and snowboarders at Lakeland High School took a ski trip to Silver Mountain on Jan. 7.
This ski trip was a part of the Battle for the Paddle fundraising at the beginning of January.
The opportunities LHS can bring its students, such as this ski trip, shows how much of a hands-on and inclusive school LHS is.
Many students, including Noah Crouse, were able to go on the ski trip.
Crouse was very excited to be able to miss a day of school and go snowboarding with his friends yesterday.
“I have always loved snowboarding, and being able to help the school and go snowboarding at the same time is a killer deal,” Crouse said. “It’s an incredible opportunity for us to do something like through our school and support the community at the same time.”
Crouse recognizes how lucky the students are at LHS to be able to go on the ski trip.
The ski trip was used as a fundraiser for Battle for the Paddle. It also allowed students to take a day off school and have fun with their peers.
Crouse thought it was cool that he could go with all his friends, even though they typically go to different mountains from him.
Overall, the ski trip was a great day. I was personally there and thought it was pretty steezy, which is a skier’s term for excellent.
The snow was decent for the weather. The sun shone, giving students a perfect bluebird day, short lift lines, and high spirits.
Most of the students I saw on the mountain were having a good time, even those just learning how to ski or snowboard.
William Neils, a junior at LHS and avid skier since age five, had a perfect time yesterday.
Neils would’ve been seen in the terrain park, showing off his skills on the jumps by doing 360s and 180s.
“I think the snow was perfect for jumps, and it made it really good to get some practice,” Neils said. “It was also super fun getting to see my peers in a place where I spend a lot of my time outside of school.”
Neils was pretty bummed there were only two chairs open but did not complain because spending a day with his friends on the slopes was a win anyways.
All the students that went on the ski trip yesterday had a blast and are very thankful for the opportunity they had to be able to go yesterday. Hopefully, it can continue to happen in future years.
