Many students decide to partake in sports. They play soccer, baseball, volleyball and many more. Some students do more unique sports, like pickle ball, lacrosse and bowling.
Katie Dewey, a sophomore at Lakeland High School, has won several bowling tournaments over the years. Dewey participates in softball and bowling. She has been bowling for roughly six years and has always enjoyed it since she started.
Dewey initially did not want to, but she was just trying to make her family happy. She is very thankful she never changed her mind and stuck with it.
Dewey participated in the Bowling Districts on Jan. 28 as a part of Timberbowls, which is a bowling team made up of students from Timberlake Middle School, Timberlake High School and LHS. She went into the tournament with high hopes and no negative thoughts, and that mentality pushed her to be the best she could be. She finished in second place and bowled a 649.
Dewey’s dream is to play softball in college, but she will choose whatever offer comes first for her when it comes to bowling and softball. She plays softball nationally and could achieve more with the sport. She plays for PNW Caos, which plays in tournaments and showcases throughout the United States.
The most recent place they went was Boise in the summer of 2023. They unfortunately did not win, but they all went and did their absolute best.
“She’s a very hard worker, and I love playing on the same team as her,” Mackenzie Briggs said. “She is always there to help me with the things I need help with to improve.”
Dewey does her best to keep the team up with her positive attitude and work ethic. This proves to her teammates that you can always have a positive outcome, whether they win or lose, no matter the circumstances. Dewey does this with both softball and bowling.
“My goal is to play softball in college, which has always been my dream, but bowling in college would be a very fun experience as well,” Dewey said.
She cannot choose what she wants to do right now, but she still has time to determine what is best for her. With her family’s support, making a decision will be accessible in the future because she will always have people there for her.
