The Lakeland Hawks cheer team competed in the annual Prairie Classic Competition on Jan. 27. The Hawks dominated and won first place in all the different routines. They took first place in Show, Sideline and Pom. Winning these made the Hawks the Grand Champions for the 4A Classification.
The score for the Pom routine was initially a tie. But as the judges reviewed it, it was down to one final judge, the tiebreaker.
“We won, so that’s good. It was a little messy, but there is always improvement,” Junior Elizabeth Duce said.
The Hawks have yet to compete since November, so it had been a couple of months since they competed, yet they could still come out on top.
Senior Hailey Wear also took third place in the tumbling competition. Senior Colin Killian was able to take first in the boys’ jumps competition, as well as third place in the boys’ tumbling.
Adaira Tyler took third place in the jump competition, and Libby Kennedy took second place.
Even though they took first place, there is still much more room for improvement.
“We hit everything, which was good, but I also think we can always be more solid in our stunts,” Duce said.
The Hawks’ next competition will be held on Feb. 3 at the Timberlake Tigers Competition at Timberlake High School.
