Although students had a chance to relax over the lengthy winter break, Lakeland’s basketball teams did not rest.
Early on in the break, both teams played in the East Idaho Holiday Shootout at Bonneville High School.
On Dec 28, the first day of the tournament, the boys defeated Skyline 77-74. The following day, they lost to Snake River 77-55. On the final day, they suffered another defeat versus Bonneville with a score of 62-53.
The girls also traveled down south, losing to Pocatello on Dec. 27 in overtime, 66-56. After this, they were able to come up with a win against Idaho Falls 75-53. Lastly, their final game was played against Teton on Dec. 29, ending their trip in a twenty-point loss.
On Jan. 5, the girl’s team was upset by the Sandpoint Bulldogs, losing 53-50 despite beginning ahead early on. Landree Simon led the Hawks in scoring with 21 points.
The boys also faced the school rival on the same day, with a similar unfortunate outcome. The game concluded with a score of 63-56. Despite the loss, Ben Roth led the team with 16 points
This said the tough losses are only pushing each team to practice harder in preparation for Battle for the Paddle against the Bulldogs.
Although the past two weeks have been tough for Lakeland basketball, there is still much of the season ahead of them.
