Lakeland High School’s Dance Team competed in the Winter Spirit Dance Competition at Post Falls High School on Dec. 16.
Their hard work and dedication paid off. They swept the competition in all of their dance categories.
The team’s scores from the judges also improved from their last competition and will hopefully continue to improve even further as they continue to strive for the state competition.
“I think we have amazing choreography and very talented dancers,” said team captain Emma Marshall, “I think this is the year we are going to go down and prove ourselves at state.”
Overall, the competition went very well for the LHS Dance team.
“It’s so amazing watching each dancer compete and showcase their unique talents,” said team member Sarah Allen. “I’m very proud of each and every member of our team that has put so much time and hard work into our routines.”
When on a dance team, it is essential that all members are connected, in sync, and know how to work together as a team. This applies to more than just on the dance floor. At the competition, the team ran into a minor hiccup regarding some shoes but was able to come together and find a solution to still do well in their routine.
“Right now, our team is a well-oiled machine,” said Coach Laura Kelley, “I am really proud of them for that.”
The team’s bond also shows when competing, which helps them place well in each category.
In their group routines, dance placed first and received a dynamic choreography award, Pom placed first, Hip Hop placed first, and Military placed first.
The LHS dance team also won an award for being the most spirited and for the prettiest poms.
In the solo division, Claire Kelley placed first, Aly Caywood placed second, and Emma Marshall placed third.
In the duo division, Leeann Lohf and Kambree Marreel placed first, Lilyann Still and Rowan McKinzie placed second, and Madelynn Hasz and Keona Roemermann placed third.
After competing in the dances, the team members had the chance to compete in other individual competitions, such as Jumps, Kicks, and Improv.
In Jumps, Claire Kelley placed first, and Aly Caywood Placed third.
In Kicks, Aly Caywood Placed first.
In improv, Claire Kelley placed second, and Aly Caywood Placed third.
Leeann Lohf and Kambree Marreel were presented with the Best Costume Award for their costumes for their duo performance.
There was also a Firecracker award that was given to a dancer who stood out to the judges. This award was received by Emma Marshall.
The team plans to keep up the hard work so they can continue to thrive this season.
