To Be a Kid Again…

As teenagers, things have changed since elementary school and middle school. In many ways, these times differ. 

Children in kindergarten now are not only playing with different toys, but also learning in different ways. 

“Things have changed so much since I was in elementary school, and that wasn’t even that long ago,” Madeline Burk said. 

Children nowadays are often seen playing with squishies and slime rather than Lincoln Logs and colorful bears. 

Since this generation of high schoolers have been in kindergarten, the technology has upgraded quite a lot. 

Sure, there were iPads that students used every once in a while, but there normally was not one for everyone. 

Many people grew up on so many fun pastimes and trinkets that will always be remember. 

“My favorite childhood memory was definitely going to the trampoline park with all my friends before I moved,” Charlotte Wiebach said.

Core memories that people make at a young age is something that they can carry with them for a long time. 

“My favorite memory was doing dance,” Burk said. 

There would be pizza parties on the day before Christmas break, with other assorted treats and a slice of pizza. 

These memories bring back a sentimental feeling that ensures comfort and safety. 

The feeling of growing up can be quite overwhelming when younger siblings start playing with newer toys and older siblings see the toys they played with become a thing of the past.

“We definitely hung out outdoors more,” Wiebach said. 

It is the same with every generation. New things come about and the old is forgotten. 

To live in a different time is something I believe everyone itches to experience. 

To see what it was like to not have a phone is something many generations will not have. 

In early 2010’s, a very popular device was the Nintendo DS. 

Most kids sat on the bus in the green booth and put their knees on the seat in front of them while they fiddled around with their DS. Children that did not have their own would peek over the shoulder of the person in front of them, mesmerized by whatever game was being played. 

Hundreds of games could be inserted and taken out of that little tiny pad. 

The memories made within a childhood will be kept forever, looked back on with feelings of warmth and nostalgia.
