What students watch growing up has an impact on how students are today. When children watch something, it is about the connection and how it applies to them and their life. The big part about this is how the characters make you feel.
Disney is a big industry with the most impact being the Disney Princesses, especially on younger girls. Each and every one of them has their own powerful story.
They have unique physical and mental features that make children relate to them. When kids look up to someone, even if it is a fictional princess, they will impact a child’s life. The princesses in Disney teach lessons, they make children want to be more, and they make them feel like they can do anything.
It is a magical moment watching a princess movie for the first time, especially when someone clicks with a princess and their storyline.
One thing I love about Disney is that they make the princesses strong, moving and independent. They can do anything, and nothing is stopping them from what they want to accomplish. They are powerful women, which is inspiring for other girls around them because there is a stigma around girls and what their limits are.
Not just women, but men are impacted by these princess films because they are so powerful.
Mr. Williams had a hard time figuring out his favorite Disney princess because he has very fond memories of growing up with Snow White and Cinderella.
“Nostalgic Snow White and Cinderella, but nowadays, Moana because she does not wear a crown or a big dress. I feel like she is a person I could walk up on the street and have a conversation with,” Mr. Williams said.
I took the liberty to ask around the school and ask what people’s favorite princess is, the majority vote was Moana. I thought it would have been something basic like Cinderella or Snow White, but it seemed that everyone was very passionate about Moana and her story because she felt more real to the audience.
Personally, my favorite princess is Tiana. She is fierce and works hard for what she wants. She does not take no for an answer and will not let anyone prove her wrong. Personally, I relate to her because I am stubborn like her. Maybe that is where I got it from because I grew up watching her, and I now fight for what I want and what I think is right.
Tiana was a less common favorite princess throughout LHS, but the ones who liked her were very passionate about her, like I am.
“My favorite princess is Rapunzel, the movie Tangled spoke to me,” senior Jillian Snipes said. “I watch it often and can recite the movie and sing all the songs.”
I agree with Snipes on this because watching Rapunzel is magical. It gives watcher that happy butterfly feeling, and the Rapunzel storyline makes viewers feel imaginative and fearless.
