Four students from Lakeland competed at drama state championships in Pocatello on Dec. 1-2. Amelia Hamburger and Riley Clement competed in ensemble humor, performing a skit called “The Boy Book” and placed 34th in the state.
Ciara McKinzie competed in solo musical theatre, performing “The Ballad of Jane Doe” from the musical Ride the Cyclone, placing 32nd in the state.
Rebekah Lewis competed in a solo audition and performed the Jawbreaker monologue from the musical Ride the Cyclone and Emily’s monologue from the play Our Town. Lewis’ performance did remarkably well and she made it to the semi-finals, placing 13th in the state.
Semi-finals occurred on Dec. 2, and Lewis ended up placing seventh out of 32 students in solo audition.
While it was great to compete, the girls all agreed they had a great time meeting new people and seeing other performances. It was a great experience overall, both educationally and socially.
