The Lakeland Hawks wrestling team had their annual Green vs Gold Dual.
This dual is to decide the varsity lineup for the upcoming season. The green team was able to take the win 52-51 over the gold team.
The night started off at 98 pounds, with Caleb Adams vs. Zach Teal. It was a tough match and after the first period, Adams had the lead at 2-0. Adams then would nearly get the pin before the second period would end, but then the buzzer went off. Adams won the match 7-0.
Following that much was the 106 match-up between Cade Knopp vs. Hunter Clark. When the first period concluded, it was tied up at two. During the second period, Knopp claimed the victory with a pin over Clark.
Next up was the 113-pound matchup between Issac Brown and Carson Leonard. Leonard ended the match fast and pinned Brown in 58 seconds.
The 120-pound matchup was between Duke Williamson and Kutter O’Brien. Williamson started off the match strong taking an 8-0 lead by the end of the first period. In the second period, nothing happened and the score stayed the same. Williamson would end up winning the match 12-3.
Next up was the 126-pound match-up, which saw Jaren Knopp take on Wyatt Marcelli. Knopp would make quick work of Marcelli and get the win with a pin in one minute and five seconds.
Justin Baxter, wrestling at 132 pounds, was able to get the pin in 40 seconds over Griffin Tamagni.
Following that match, the 138-pound matchup would take place between Body Clauson and Kross O’Brien. O’Brien pinned his oppennet within 43 seconds.
The 145-pound matchup was between Gage McWaters and Kaleb Hammer. Hammer would easily take the win, pinning McWaters in 55 seconds.
The 152-pound matchup was between Liam Burke and Austin Howell. Howell would take a huge early lead in the first period ending the period winning 8-1. Howell would then get the pin during the second period and pick up the varsity spot.
Following that match, the 160-pound matchup was Thayer Sabatke vs. Payton Sardinha. Sabatke would take the win and the varsity spot, pinning Sardinha in one minute and ten seconds.
The 170-matchup featured Wyatt Berger vs. Mark Fischer. Berger took the takedown and rode on top for the duration of the first period heading into the second period winning 2-0. Berger would then pin Fischer 34 seconds into the third period.
The 182-poonf weight class would feature Westen Sobel taking on Jaden Bokely. Sobel would make this match quick and pin Bokely in the first period.
Next up was the 195-pound matchup featuring Matthew Vargas and Gage Oles. Oles was able to pick up the win, pinning Vargas in one minute and 20 seconds.
The 220-pound matchup would see Dylan Scott and Ernie Steele in a match that did not last too long, with Scott pinning Steele in one minute and 40 seconds.
The Last match saw Carter Vanek and Zane Grey have a match for the heavyweight varsity spot. Vanek was able to pick up the win with a cradle pin in just over a minute.
The Hawks’s next match is the Van Tuinstra Duals one Saturday, Dec. 2 at Timberlake High School.
