Waking up to a fresh blanket of snow, covering driveways.
Air that smells like hot cocoa and peppermint.
A blackened night with colorful lights illuminating streets and houses.
That is when it is clear that winter has finally arrived. There are loads of different activities to partake in during winter.
Many people are fond of activities such as skiing or snowboarding.
Snowboarding and skiing are two very different sports.
Snowboarding takes a higher level of concentration and skill, whereas skiing is easier and faster for people to learn. Nearly 8 million people go skiing or snowboarding as a hobby every year.
It is a fun winter activity and also keeps people in shape during the winter season. After a long day on the mountain, most people resort to going home and curling up by a nice warm fireplace, and drinking a cup of hot chocolate.
“Snowboarding is my favorite winter activity because it is fun and brings you together with friends and family,” Cole Cooper said.
There are many different ski slopes close enough for students who attend Lakeland High School to choose among.
Some of the more popular resorts are Silver Mountain, Schweitzer and Lookout Pass. These slopes are fun and family-friendly, with different runs designed for people of all ages and skill levels. This makes skiing and snowboarding enjoyable for the entire family.
“My favorite places to go are Lookout and Schweitzer because they do not have a lot of tourists and they have some good slopes,” Madison Addleman said. “Schweitzer is also nice because it has a lot of lodges so my mom can hang out while I snowboard.”
One of the most traditional and fun aspects of winter is the food and drinks.
Families often make Christmas cookies as a family while drinking a hot cup of cocoa. Nothing beats a nice hot cup of cocoa after being out in the cold of a winter day, followed by a freshly made cookie.
Everyone makes their cookies different, but it is the time spent together that makes it special. The excitement of Christmas day overwhelms people’s thoughts, while snowflakes fall outside.
Most people would say Christmas is their favorite holiday, and this can be for numerous reasons. Christmas is all about giving to others and spending time with family and friends.
Children especially get overjoyed by the thought of Christmas. The anticipation of opening presents, not knowing what you might get next is the best part of Christmas. Christmas is a cozy time of year. People turn on their fireplaces and snuggle up to watch their favorite winter movies, all while the snow rages on outside.
Christmas is so magical and always brings family and friends closer together.
“Christmas is by far the best holiday, it brings you together with your friends and family,” Cooper said.
Winter is not for everyone, and some people despise the snow and cold weather, but beyond the cold is a beautiful season full of memories waiting to be made.
