Every staff member at Lakeland High School is great in their way. Cortsan Milks is one of these fantastic people who works to make this school a great place.
Milks is the athletic setup worker at LHS, working daily to help the school stay in good shape.
“The people that I’m around make the job way easier, and the positive atmosphere is awesome which also helps,” Milks said.
Besides working in the daytime at the school, he is also the assistant football coach. He loves helping out with the kids and uses his knowledge of the game to boost the kid’s understanding of what they are doing.
“I like seeing young men become young adults and doing what I can to help them achieve their goals,” Milks said. “I also, enjoy seeing them mature and grow up throughout their high school careers.”
Before working or coaching for LHS Milks, attended the high school himself. His dream coming out of high school was to play football at the next level. He achieved his goal.
He then earned a football scholarship and attended Eastern Oregon University and later transferred to MSU-Northern, where he led the frontier conference in tackles.
“I miss the physicality and camaraderie,” Milks said. “I love to hit people and I just miss being out on the field and experiencing football at that level.”
Growing up in Rathdrum, Idaho, Milks grew to love his hometown and the people that he met.
“The more I live, the more I realize that all we have are the memories that we make,” Milks said.
Sophomore, Noah Bodak admires Milks for what he does as a person and as a coach.
”Coach Milks taught me a lot about football and helped hme understand the game better,” sophomore Noah Bodak said. “He is also probably one of the funniest people I have ever met.”
Milks was a three year starter at LHS, where he also lettered eight times. He made all-first-team North Idaho and all-state while also receiving defense MVP for the Intermountain League. He was a three sport athlete in which he played football, basketball, and baseball.
“A lot of coaches helped me earn those honors and accolades and I hope I can do my best to help the kids I coach achieve the same,” Milks said.
In his free time, Milks enjoys going to concerts, trivia, Chuck E. Cheese with his daughter and attending his daughter’s sporting events.
“My new job allows me to spend a lot more time with my daughter,” Milks said. “Our schedules are now in line and that is also a big reason in why I took this job.”
