Billie Eilish once said, “If music is therapy, who is your therapist?”
I do not think I could answer this question using just one artist because there are so many artists I am obsessed with for every different mood.
My favorite artists are Bailey Zimmerman, Taylor Swift, Chase Matthew, Zach Bryan and Morgan Wallen. I like listening to these artists because they tell stories in their songs.
Songs tell stories and life experiences. These help the artist get their own feelings out and help them get through things as well as share their experiences. These are eye-opening as well, showing the human in the people who admire and appreciate.
“My favorite artist is Bailey Zimmerman because he is the goat,” senior Toby Tebbe said.
There are so many different types of music, from country to heavy metal and all the in-between. People are able to music for all different kinds of moods.
Research shows that music can reduce anxiety and blood pressure, as well as improve sleep quality, mood, mental alertness and memory.
Students do so much with music, and for me, it is an important part of my everyday life.
I even use music when I am doing school work to help with focusing, but nothing beats screaming my favorite song in the car for whatever mood I am feeling.
“I listen to music at any given moment when I am free. It helps me with my low points and keeps the high points of my life high,” Toby Tebbe said.
If I am upset, I will go on a drive and listen to music and cry or scream the song.
Nick Haynes studied music apparition in college and listens to music quite frequently.
“My favorite artist, I could say Elvis,” Haynes said. “That is a classic, I have so many depending on my mood. I could even say Chris Stapleton; I went and saw him in concert this summer. I do listen to the 70s a lot. It is my go-to.”
Personally, I feel music can help set someone’s mood. If I wake up in the morning and listen to music that is going to make me upset, I am going to be in that upset mood for the rest of the day, but if I listen to some upbeat music, then my mood will be happy, and I will spend the rest of my day upbeat and smiling.
“Music to me is entertainment and relaxation,” Haynes said. “It can calm you down, but it can also get you amped up. Music is definitely a mood setter, but also can be used for a lot of other things like pain management and distraction.”
