Growing up in Deer Park, Washington, Brooke Gregory decided to take a leap of faith and move to Rathdrum, Idaho, with her family. Gregory had no idea what to expect attending Lakeland High School for her junior year.
Gregory played soccer since she was a toddler. She played competitively on Eastern Washington Surf and recently switched clubs this last season to play for Thorns F.C.
Gregory played soccer on the LHS varsity team. She had to step up and play a position she never played before due to the fact she was too physical to play any defensive position because she caused penalties.
Although she was new to the team, she took the role of the team captain and did a great job at obtaining the job that needed to be done. The LHS soccer team ended up losing three defenders midway through the season due to multiple injuries, but Gregory did not let that affect how she played or how she let the team play.
Ruby McIntosh was extremely grateful to have Gregory in the back line with her for the extra help.
“I was worried at first about Brooke in the beginning because she was new to the team,” McIntosh said. “She immediately changed my mind after the first practice. She showed how grateful she was to be a part of our team. She really brought some competition. She became one of our team captains, which really sealed the deal.”
Isabella Wright was one of the defenders that got injured during the 2023 season. She especially appreciated Gregory stepping up and taking the spot of Wright after she got hurt. Despite every bad thought Gregory had about playing left back, which is a defensive position, she still overcame that fear and did it for the team.
“Brooke had helped our team in many ways, and she was a great teammate and really made the season fun,” Wright said.” Some ways she has impacted our team to me is her work ethic in sports, and she’s always working her butt off on the field even if she is in a position she didn’t feel comfortable in.”
Gregory, over the summer, went to Macclesfield, United Kingdom, to play and train with Macclesfield F.C. She got invited to play with them again in a tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.
