This week is crucial for seniors. Hearing the words college application week can be eye-opening.
Applying to colleges or other training programs can be scary because picking a carrer path for after high schooll is so important.
Making these big decisions can be stressful. There is so much to consider and know about before applying to colleges, trade schools and other training programs.
Many students are worrying about costs, making sure the proper courses are available, how far away from home they are and whether or not they have to live on campus,
Luckily, Carrie Paquette, the college career advisor, is here to help all seniors make these big decisions.
Paquette also sends out information on scholarships and other great ways to pay less for further education.
“This year I have representatives from workforce training centers and technical programs so that all seniors have the opportunity to talk to a representative no matter what they want to do after high school,” Paquette said.
There are so many things to know about each college or program before fully committing to one.
These questions can get overwhelming, so using the assignments and information Paquette sends out each week is crucial for making the application process smoother.
“Applying to colleges has been a little difficult,” KJ Slover said. “I have been having meetings with Mrs. Paquette to find the best colleges and applications for what I want to study.”
If any senior is still struggling with finding the information they need, making an appointment with Paquette can be very beneficial, Paquette will take the time to find the best options based on each student.
Planning ahead can make it much less stressful to go off on when it is time.
Many seniors will be going off to college or a training program, maybe they are staying close to home or maybe even across the country.
We all say “I can’t wait to move out” or “I can’t wait to live on my own,” but that is scary in reality.
As the senior class gets closer to making these decisions and planning where they will go, the reality is setting in that it is a little more nerve-wracking than it used to seem.
“It’s a weird feeling, but every teenager and family member knows that the day is going to come so I’m not stressing about it. It’s going to be an adventure and a great portal to the real world” Jace Cooksey said.
No matter how well seniors prepare, there will always be some nerves about leaving home, however getting the assignments and planning your future now can make it so much easier.
Paquette gives out new information every day that can make future planning less stressful.
“The main goal is to have every senior or close to apply to at least one college or training program, get them started on that next path,” Paquette said.
Even if seniors are not using the resources Paquette sends out, it is not too late to plan their future education path.
This week representatives are coming to LHS for any path seniors could be considering. Some of the representatives that will be here to answer any questions are the NIC workforce training center, NIC trade program for Parker, NIC advising technical program, Boise State University, University of Idaho and Idaho State University.
