Often, when players warm up for a game, they don’t realize how soon the game will begin until the game has already started, and the players all of a sudden are thrown into a vigorous game.
This is a phenomenon that everyone will experience at some point in their athletic career. The game starts before they know it; it feels like you just get thrown into the mix without warning.
The 11-5-1 Lakeland Hawks hosted the 4-10 Moscow Bears on Oct. 5. During the four-day school week, Lakeland lacked time to prepare. Moscow also had less time to prepare, and both teams were not fully ready for the battle ahead.
Regardless of preparedness, the Hawks showed out on senior night and swept their league opponent, the Bears. Not letting up any moment of the game, the Hawks have shown once again that they are at the top of the totem pole in 4A North Idaho volleyball.
In the first set, Lakeland started strong, winning by 15 at 25-10.
Lakeland continued to feed off Moscow’s fear in the second set and took an easy 25-13 win. Not wanting to lose a league game, Moscow crawled back into the game in the third set, but Lakeland’s skill was too much to handle, and the Hawks took the third set 25-19.
In the end, it was an excellent senior night performance from the first-place Hawks.
“I believe that they could have caught up to us, but we kept the pressure on,” LHS junior Ziya Munyer said.
The Hawks even believe that they could have done better, but in the end, the win is all that matters.
“I think that we will beat Sandpoint; we’ve beaten them before and I think we can do it again,” Munyer said.
Although the Hawks won this game, it was still not the end for them. They still have a battle against their rivals at Sandpoint, which should be an amazing game.
Two Titans are duking it out on the court, and the Hawks need to train for the battle ahead.
