Class themes for homecoming week are a fun way to get more people involved and have more fun with homecoming week. This year at Lakeland High School, the homecoming themes are freshman as Disney, sophomore as Wild West, junior as Halloween and seniors as Barbie.
Personally, I think this year each class has a really good theme this year. As a Senior myself and a Barbie lover, I definitely approve of the Barbie class theme. Barbie is very popular right now, so having Barbie as one of our themes is extremely fitting.
Dressing up is a very fun part of homecoming week. The day we dress up for our class themes is a very fun one. It shows the different grades’ spirit and excitement for homecoming. So, having a fun theme that is easy to dress up for but sparks excitement in the majority of students is crucial.
Everyone has their own opinions on each theme, and everyone has their own favorite.
“My favorite theme is Barbie, although I wish, as sophomores, we had the Disney theme,” Abby Kooiman said. “I think Disney would be fun and easy to dress up for. Our theme, Wild West, I feel is kinda basic and blends in with the flannel day, but I think the cowboy look is really cute, and I am excited to dress up.”
The Wild West theme is very fitting for our school, half the people here are dressed like that every day.
I feel where Abby Kooiman is coming from because kids are dressed like that anyway, but I feel like it is a fun way you can go all out and just have fun with it. A Wild West lip sync, I also think, is going to be really fun to watch. There is so much potential, and they can put a lot of creativity into the lip sync for the theme of Wild West.
“I like the theme of the Wild West. It is one of the better ones. I have fun. I just really like the idea of dressing up for Wild West. I think it is really fun,” sophomore JaKaline Zindell said.
I have a feeling this year is going to be a good year for lip-syncs because each grade has such a great and creative theme.
Here at Lakeland High School, we have a very spirited and involved student council, and they put a lot of hard work into putting things together for us. Coming up with Homecoming themes for each grade is a part of the work they put in.
“When trying to pick a theme for homecoming, the hardest part is coming up with ideas and then all of us agreeing on one,” freshman class president Lilyann Still said.
The dress-up theme Disney for freshmen this year is a very fun theme, it gets the students to feel like they are little kids again and have fun dressing up with no shame because I know we all feel a little shame sometimes when we show off our younger sides.
“We chose Disney as our theme because it is something that can include everyone, and that is an important part,” Still said.
This is a theme that you can get very creative with because there is a lot you can do with this theme. You could be as simple as putting Mickey Mouse ears on, or go all out and dress as your favorite character from Disney.
“I feel like we are going to see a lot of ears,” Lilyann Still said.
The Juniors this year at Lakeland have the theme of Halloween. I have never seen this theme before. Halloween is such a creative theme I would have never thought of it.
“We chose this because the day we are doing the lip sync is Friday the 13th, so it really fits the vibe,” junior Sam Locke said. “Homecoming is also later in the year, and October is Halloween month, so the vibes were just right. Who does not like Halloween?”
The juniors can have so much creative freedom with this one.
“As juniors, we have a very broad theme, and you can dress up as a lot of different things. This has not been done before, so it will be very interesting to see how it unfolds,” Elizabeth Duce said.
I am excited to see the hallway decorations for the junior hallway. I think they are going to be really cool this year, I am excited to see how the whole theme plays out.
Barbie… Barbie is my personal favorite, I may be biased as a senior, but I do really think it is a perfect theme. It is such a bright happy theme, and all the pink we are going to see is going to be so fun.
“We have a really good theme, although a lot of other schools have had this theme, it is not a bad thing. It is just Barbie is very popular right now,” senior Malia Batman said.
She is right, Barbie right now is very popular, but that is what makes it fun. We are participating in the current trends. Barbie is a classic and a very popular thing with all ages and is inclusive for everyone.
This coming week is going to be a super fun week, I am excited to see all of the themes in action, with dress-up days, lip sync, and hallway decorations.
