Every year, the different classes come together and compete in the lip sync battle.
The themes for the classes this year are: freshman with Disney Days, sophomores with Wild West, juniors with Halloween and seniors with Barbie. Each class must make a lip sync dance that coordinates with their theme.
The sophomore class has been practicing regularly for the last few weeks, preparing all students who have decided to participate in the lip sync.
The junior class has also been practicing their lip sync dance; however, the junior class is struggling with participation.
“I’d like to remain positive about it, but we don’t have a lot of participation,” Sam Locke, the junior class president, said.
The junior student council members have been trying to recruit more students to participate, but they are finding it challenging to get everyone involved.
Some students say they think it would be embarrassing to be in the lip sync, but the lip sync only brings the classes together.
“The lip sync brings the whole school together because it shows some of the personality of the classes, and all of the students participating can recognize how hard it can be to learn and perform the lip sync,” Allison Knoll said.
There are only so many opportunities to be a part of the lip sync. It brings everyone together, it’s a great experience, and the lip sync gives each class a chance to come together and show the other classes what they can do.
“I think more seniors should be involved in the lip sync because it’s really fun, it’s a great way to get involved, it’s our final year, and it’s a great way to compete against the other classes,” Ben Ryan, the senior class president said.
The senior class is also excited for their final homecoming lip sync.
“You get to meet some of the other people in your class, and it shows school spirit,” said Jillian Snipes, a senior at LHS. “It shows school spirit, and no one will notice if you mess up. you can only do it so many times, so everyone should try to be involved.”
As the homecoming assembly approaches, each class is beginning to practice a couple of times a week. Senior practices started this week, while the sophomore and junior classes began weeks ago.
Even though practices have already started, classes are still looking for people to join the sync performance.
However, the lip sync is not effortless. It can be difficult to learn how to dance and keep the energy throughout the performance. Also, learning the words of the songs in order to lip sync may be a challenge for some.
“I’m having fun. I’m a little nervous to have to do the lip sync in front of the whole school,” Daniel Killian said.
He is a member of the sophomore lip sync. It is his first year participating in the lip sync. Killian pointed out it is a little difficult to learn the dance.
There is still time for everyone to join their class in the lip sync competition and show their school spirit.
