Lakeland walked off the court triumphant after the game against the Sandpoint Bulldogs on Sept. 21.
The Hawks won in 3-1 with set scores of 22-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-11.
Junior Landree Simon had a substantial 17 kills, Ella Terzulli had 34 assists, Lila Kiefer had 25 digs, Addyson Hocking had 21 digs and three aces, and Ziya Munyer had seven blocks.
Layla Benson also had a great game Thursday night and was able to show up when the team needed it.
Lakeland’s quick responses and quick-paced decision-making allowed the team to execute down the stretch.
Having strong communication, especially between the weak side and the strong side, helped the Hawks secure the win.
The Hawks began the second set with an energetic willingness to come back.
The rival schools, Lakeland and Sandpoint, made for a great matchup. Both teams played highly athletic, with good rallies on both sides, though the Hawks played aggressively and trusted the game plan.
The gym was filled with cheering spectators. The LHS student section was occupied by students dressed as “ESPN reporters” or “recruiters” to fit the theme of the week. Some students even brought a whole reporting table, including headphones and laptops, to perfect their look.
The Hawks are hoping that they can keep their recently acquired momentum alive and pull through the remainder of the season.
Lakeland’s next appearance is Sept. 23 in the Rocky Mountain tournament.
