The LHS girls soccer team lost a close game against the Moscow Bears, 2-0, on Sept. 19.
It was a very physical game on both sides of the ball. The last time these two teams faced, the Hawks lost two players to season-ending injuries.
The Hawks are still struggling to put together a lineup with so many injuries affecting the Hawks lineup.
The score was 1-0 for the majority of the match until the Bears were able to get a penalty kick through the goal.
Malia Batman was happy with how the Hawks performed but were unable to capitalize.
“Definitely one of our better games against Moscow, we could have done a lot better with being more locked in,” Batman said. She also mentioned that the team as a whole needs to work on communicating and getting open more.
The Hawks are looking to bounce back in district play against the Sandpoint Bulldogs on September 27.
They also played the Bonners Ferry Badgers on September 20 and won the match 4-1.
It was the Hawk’s senior night, where they got to celebrate the class of 2024: Regan Wright, Caroline Gallus, Shelby Wear, Caitlin Eiluk, and Batman.
It was a very emotional game for everyone, and the Hawks came out with the win in a good performance against the Badgers.
The Hawks started out strong, with Natalee Rose scoring 11 minutes into the game. This was followed up by an unassisted goal from Karstyn Kiefer. The two seniors who scored goals on senior night were Wright and Batman.
Kiefer had high praise for the Hawks, “The game started out kinda slow, and our passes were not connecting, but they ended up connecting, and it ended great.”
There was also a little pressure since it was senior night, but “It was good. There was some pressure to win, and with our passes not connecting, but it was really good.”
The Hawk’s next game is Monday, September 25, against the Lake City Timberwolves.
