Another Lakeland Hawks volleyball game was held on Sept. 19 at Moscow High School. The Hawks used the final two sets to beat the Moscow Bears with final scores of 25-14, 19-25, 25-10 and 25-19.
Ziya Munyer had 17 kills and six blocks, Addy Hocking had 16 digs and two aces, Landree Simon had 20 kills and 16 digs and Ella Terzulli had 32 assists.
The team, as a whole, pulled through when it mattered.
Lakeland was able to quickly catch up to speed with Moscow’s plays and their defense quickly adapted to the Bears’ playing style. “It took some time to adjust and play our tempo,” said Lakeland’s coach, Kelsie Badger.
But regardless of a struggle in the beginning, the Hawks made a comeback and came out on top.
With great defense from the front row, including Layla Benson and Ashleigh Feld, Lakeland was able to execute blocks very quickly and move straight into offense to get ready for Moscow’s hits. Addy Hocking, Lakeland’s libero, had quite a game and helped lead her team to the win.
The stands were packed to the brim in Moscow, and it was not an easy environment to survive. Nerves aside, the Hawks locked in and were able to come into the game with powerful digs, hits and even aces.
Taking the team on the road can also be a challenge for volleyball teams, as it is for any sports team. Lakeland was able to execute this plan and survived Moscow unscathed. Even though the game was a long, hot one, gameplay did not falter.
It is always a good feeling to get the win after last week’s loss to Coeur d’Alene.
Next week, Lakeland is scheduled to host Sandpoint. This rival game will be one for the books and one to look forward to. The team will address their weaknesses to be ready for Sandpoint next week. Be sure to bring your spirit and cheers. And be ready to back up the girls for the rivalry feud next week in the home gym.
