The Lakeland Hawks football team(3-2) endured a challenging game on Friday, Sept. 15 against Coeur d’Alene(3-1), resulting in a 54-0 loss.
Unnecessary mistakes and a lack of physicality are ultimately what caused Lakeland to fall to the Vikings. Along with this, Coeur d’Alene is a great team that has depth, and their team is full of highly talented players.
The Vikings were able to hold the Hawks to 112 rushing yards and 20 passing, taking away much of Lakeland’s opportunity. This is a factor that the Hawks know cannot happen moving forward in the season.
Coming off back-to-back losses against West Valley and Coeur d’Alene, the Hawks will be working extra hard this week in preparation for their upcoming game against Post Falls(3-1), who are currently ranked number one in the 5A Inland Empire League. These hard practices will take place to get the Hawks looking forward and moving on from last week’s game.
“I expect us to play better than we did against Coeur d’Alene, but I definitely expect them to be a good team. Individually, I need to focus on ball security, running hard, and then making plays on defense,” said Clive Hobbs.
As a team, Lakeland knows they need to work on eliminating the number of turnovers and stuffing the ball on offense. Upon doing this, the Hawks are confident in their ability to bounce back from last week.
The Hawks are set to face the Trojans on Sept. 22 in Post Falls, ID, at 7 p.m.
