This year there are so many new teachers at Lakeland. As you will be in school with them all year, the students must get to know a little bit about each one.
Maurissa Archer is originally from Post Falls Idaho. She has worked as a preschool teacher for eight years and has been a high school and middle school teacher for going on four years.
She has taught many different subjects which include, Government, Economics, Personal Finance, World History, US History, and Athletic Conditioning. She currently teaches Strategic English and Study Support.
Archer would describe her teaching style as fun, firm and fair.
Having a teacher that is fun and easy to connect with is very important. Thoran Rodgers, a sophomore at LHS, has her as his fifth-period teacher. He says that he likes that he can joke around with her.
“Mrs. Archer is a fun teacher to be around. I like that we can joke around and have fun while still learning,” Rodgers said.
Rodgers is enjoying settling into Archer’s class and learning many interesting things about her.
Outside of school, Archer has some hobbies that may take students by surprise.
“My students may not know, but I like to ride motorcycles for fun,” Archer said.
In the short time Archer has been here, she has shown to be a very genuine person. She originally began teaching because she cares for the well-being of students.
“I enjoy working with all types of learners, meeting different types of students, and watching them understand something for the first time,” she said.
Students can tell when their teacher truly wants the best for them.
She believes that her students like that she pushes them when they need to be put to the test.
It can be difficult if you don’t feel like you can’t talk or ask your teachers questions, but Archer makes sure her students don’t feel that way.
“Mrs. Archer is a chill teacher, and I like that I can ask her questions and she is there to help,” Rodgers said.
As the years go on with teaching, all teachers improve. This can be from many things, some being you learn how to keep your classroom under control or how you can come off effectively to your students. Archer says that she thinks hers is that she is always learning from both her colleagues and her students.
“Every lesson I learn something from the students,” Archer said. “ I am constantly tweaking my lessons to fit the learning style of my students. I also keep learning from my colleagues around me.”
Since being here at LHS, she thinks that the staff and students have been very welcoming to her and thinks the school is amazing.
“Mrs. Archer is definitely one of the nicest teachers I’ve met throughout my school career. She cares about others, and I’m thankful she’s here at Lakeland,” Steward said.

I worked closely with Mrs Archer for the last two years. All of this is very true about her. Her old students really miss her. She made such huge impact on their lives and brought them all to a better and stronger place in their academics and sports. She is an amazingly wonderful and fun teacher and friend, LHS is blessed to have her.
