Senior Sunrise is a yearly tradition that involves waking up before the crack of dawn on the last first day of high school to watch the sunrise as a class.
Many students wake up as early as 5 a.m. to prepare for a long-awaited day: the beginning of senior year.
The 2023-2024 Senior Sunrise is scheduled for 6 a.m.
This year’s senior ASB only consists of two students, Jasmin Allen and Ben Ryan. Together, the two did all the planning for the event.
They were in charge of informing students about the event, buying snacks for the event, and making signs for pictures.
“I’m really excited to see everyone kick off our final year of high school and just get a chance to hang out as high school seniors for the first time,” Ryan said.
This tradition can often feel like a full-circle moment for many seniors.
Students are able to start their final year off with the classmates they have spent every day with for the recent years of their youth.
Allen is very grateful for this long-lived tradition that feels very sentimental to her.
“It’s important so the senior class can start the school year together,” Allen said. “On the last day of school, we do a senior sunset where we all watch the sunset at the end of the school year together as well.”
Many students are also very glad to come out to the football field to take part in the senior sunrise.
Ella Terzulli felt like the Senior Sunrise was a great opportunity to rekindle friendships and
“I think its important to see all your friends again and remember those awesome memories we have made together,” Terzulli said.
Despite the grass being wet and the air being cold, Terzulli felt like the Senior Sunrise was a wholesome memory she was glad to take part in.
Ryan believes that it is important seniors partake in the events to cherish their last year at Lakeland High School.
“This is important because we really want to give the senior class an event they can come to that’s just all seniors to celebrate the beginning of the end of high school journey,” Ryan said.
As the 2023 class is moving on to their next paths, whether it be college, traveling or a gap year, the 2024 class is ready to face their final year at LHS.
