Hawks Battle Trojans in Dual
The Lakeland High School track team competed against Post Falls High School in an at-home dual on Apr. 12.
Although the Hawks boys and girls teams both took second place overall, various athletes placed highly due to their individual performance.
Senior, Terry Edwards, took first place in the boys 100-meter with a time of 11.44 seconds. As for the girls 100-meter, the Palaniuk twins, McKenzie and Michaela, took first and second place, respectively.
McKenzie was also able to take first place in the girls 200-meter with a time of 27.48 seconds. Collin Cameron took second place overall in the boys 200-meter with a time of 24.9 seconds.
Jeremiah Couper took first place in the boys 800-meter with a time of 2 minutes and 15.11 seconds. Landree Simon took third place in the girls 800-meter with a time of 2 minutes and 35.39 seconds.
Noah Best took first place in the boys 1600-meter with a time of 5 minutes and 1.53 seconds. Micah Bretveld placed third in the girls 1600-meter with a time of 6 minutes and 14.03 seconds.
Freshman, Charlie Mattila took second place in the boys 3200-meter with a time of 11 minutes and 24.68 seconds.
Once again, Lakeland’s relay teams pulled through. The boys 4×100-meter relay race, consisting of Thomas Calder, Nick Nowell, Weston Saputski, and Edwards took first place with a time of 44.16 seconds. The girls 4×100-meter relay also took first place due to Regan Wright, Chloe Charvier-Soleillet, and the Palaniuk’s with a time of 51.84 seconds. Each group took first place in the boys and girls 4×200-meter relay as well.
Jaylynn Golden, Katherine Cameron, Wright, and Landree Simon took first place in the girls 4×400-meter relay too, with a time of 4 minutes and 37.04 seconds.
Preston Jeffs placed first in the boys shot put with a 51 feet and 1 inch, and second in discus with a throw of 129 feet and 6 inches.
Ben Roth took second in the boys high jump with a jump of 5 feet and 8 inches, with Landree Simon taking third place in the girls high jump with a leap of 4 feet and 6 inches.
Matt Williams and John Merideth tied for third place in the boys pole vault, clearing the bar at 9 feet even.
Thomas Calder took first in the boys long jump with a jump of 19 feet and 3 inches, followed by Nick Nowell who took third with a jump of 17 feet and 10 inches. Grayce Jenson took first overall in the girls long jump with a jump of 14 feet and 1 inch.
Being of the few athletes that participate in the girls triple jump, Bailey Chadwell took first for the Hawks with a leap of 30 feet and 1 inch.
After yesterday’s meet, the team has high hopes heading into the rest of the season, knowing they only continue to grow and get better.
Lakeland will now compete against Moscow High School in Moscow, ID on Friday, Apr. 13.
