Track Starts off Strong
Lakeland High School’s first track meet of the season took place in Lewiston, Idaho on March 17.
The boy’s team took fifth place overall, while the girl’s team’s performance landed them in fourth place.
Weston Saputski took fifth in the men’s 100-meter with a time of 11.7 seconds. McKenzie Palaniuk took fourth in the women’s 100-meter with a time of 13.22 seconds.
Nick Nowell took sixth place in the men’s 200-meter with a time of 23.99 seconds. Mckenzie Palaniuk once again took fourth place in the 200-meter with a time of 27.34 seconds.
Thomas Calder, Terry Edwards, Nowell and Saputski broke the men’s 4×100-meter relay record with a time of 43.41 seconds. Although they did not do as well in the 4×200-meter relay, Ezra Benson, Calder, Edwards, and Saputski placed third with a time of 1 minute and 37.14 seconds.
The girl’s relays were just as successful, with Regan Wright, Chloe Charvier-Soleillet, Michaela Palaniuk, and McKenzie Palaniuk taking first place in the women’s 4×100-meter relay with a time of 51.31 seconds. The four girls also managed to take second in the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1 minute and 49.33 seconds.
Preston Jeffs placed third in the men’s 12lb shot put with a throw of 47 feet and 2 inches.
Karstyn Kiefer took fourth place in the women’s 800-meter with a time of 1 minute and 4.04 seconds.
Ziya Munyer took first place in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 34 feet and 7.75 inches.
Kenna Simon cleared the bar at 5 feet in the women’s high jump, earning her the first-place spot.
The Hawk’s next track meet with take place at home on Wednesday, March 22 beginning at 3 pm.
