Lakeland Falls to Post Falls
On Dec. 22, the Lakeland Hawks wrestling team took on the Post Falls Trojans. Last season, the Hawks lost to the Trojans with a final score of 68-4. Matt Williams was the only one out of 15 wrestlers to win his match. Willams won in a major decision with a final score of 8-0.
This season, the Hawks wrestled better than last season. The Hawks scored 15 points on the Trojans. The final score of the Dec. 22 duel was 64-15 in favor of the Trojans.
The Hawks started off the duel with a loss in the 98-pound weight class by pin, putting the Trojans up 6-0.
In the second match of the night, Lakeland Hawk Jarren Knopp lost to Ryder Segwine by a major decision giving the Trojans a 10-0 lead.
At 113 pounds, Duke Williamson would get the Hawks’ first points of the night with a six-point pin cutting the Trojan’s lead down to four.
Matt Williams would take the forfeit for the Hawks at 120 pounds putting them in the lead 12-10.
At 126 pounds, Cole Cooper lost by a pin decision giving the lead back to the Trojans.
Kalab Hammer would also give up a major decision for the 132-pound match-up.
At 138 pounds, John Merridith gave up a 5-point tech putting the Trojans up 25-12.
At 145 pounds, Thayer Sabatke lost by a minor decision giving the Trojans three more points.
The Hawks would give up pins in weights 182-152 pounds putting the Trojans up 52-12.
At 195 pounds, Gage Oles would lose by a pin giving the Trojans another six points.
At 220 pounds, the Hawks would get their third win when Devon Howell beat his opponent 9-4, giving the Hawks a minor decision win and three more points. This put the score at 58-15.
Preston Jeffs would end off the night getting pinned and giving the Trojans six more points making the final score 64-15.
The Hawks’ next matchup will be in St. Marries on Dec. 30 as they compete in the Chad Ross Memorial Tournament.
