The Lakeland Lady Hawks(13-12) defeated the Moscow Lady Bears(10-14), 19-9, on May 11 at Lakeland High School in Rathdrum, Idaho. The Lady Hawks hit a handful of home runs and offensively overpowered the Lady Bears in a high-scoring affair.

Freshman Alexis Hanna went 3 for 4 including a monster home run to left center field. “I just put my bat out there and swung, I didn’t think it went over and it happened really fast but once I realized it went over, it was a great feeling,” said Hanna.

Hanna also added, “It was a great experience as a freshman to play in a district game and win. Kyleigh’s home run was a great moment in the game and I’m just looking forward to Friday night getting an opportunity to go to state with one more win.”

The Lady Hawks had 17 hits, including multiple hit games from Hanna, Emma Avalos, Payton Sterling, Kyleigh Dyer, and Haylee Smit. Hanna, Avalos, Dyer, and Erin Byrne all hit home runs in the 10-run mercy-rule style victory.

Senior Haylee Smit pitched the entirety of the game for the Lady Hawks and struck out three batters with only one walk in five innings of work.

The Lady Hawks and Lady Bears will face off in Rathdrum on Friday at 3 pm and if the Lady Bears win and push game three, it will be held immediately after game two on Friday.
