You never know when you’re gonna meet someone you immediately click with. For Tessa Bennet and Rylee Hall, two freshmen from LHS, this moment started in fifth grade.
For Maya Keck and Zoie Davies, two Seniors from LHS, this moment also happened in fifth grade.
Bennet and Hall went to elementary school together, but became friends in fifth grade. They have been inseparable since.
“My favorite memory is when she showed up for my birthday party as a surprise,” Hall said. Bennet had been on vacation and came back to surprise Hall for her birthday.
Bennet and Hall have big plans for the future. “We want to go on road trips together when we’re out of high school,” Bennet said.
Their friendship goal is to stay inseparable for life.
“We want to be friends even when we’re older because we want our kids to be friends” Bennet said.
Davies and Keck have been best friends for seven years.
Keck transferred to Davies’ elementary school, meeting through the same friend group.
“We met when we were in the same friend group and we kind of just drifted off into our own friendship,” Davies said.
For Granted
All great friends have fights, though. For Bennet and Hall there was no exception. With a four year friendship, there are bound to be disagreements. But, the fights only led to them getting closer.
“We got into a fight one time but we are still really close,” Bennet said.
For Keck and Davies, their argument resulted in a no-contact period.
“We have had arguments in the past, and last year, we didn’t even talk to each other,” Davies said, “But we realized we couldn’t not talk to each other”.
Bennet, Hall, Davies and Keck don’t know each other, but they all have one thing in common. They have been friends since fifth grade. An insignificant detail to most that means a lot to them personally. Bennett and Hall will be close for years to come, and while Davies and Keck will continue to be close in the future, they will be moved away from each other.
For Davies and Keck, the future is becoming closer to a reality as they start to think about what they want to do after high school.
While Keck is going to Boise State, Davies is going to a four-year university to study veterinary medicine.
“I’m either going to Grand Canyon University or Montana State,” Davies said.
Bennet and Hall have three more years together, in the same town and the same school with no idea what the future holds.
Davies and Keck will be away from each other for quite some time.
“It’s gonna suck to be away from her for so long, but the nice thing about technology is that we can still contact each other whenever we want to,” Davies said.
These are not the only best friends in Lakeland High School (LHS) that will no longer be those teenagers in high school, making the most of their friendship.
Many best friends have to face this reality. But despite this, these duos will stay as best in contact as they can and become even closer than before.
So, hug your friends. Hangout with them as much as possible. Because some day, those hang outs will become less frequent, and those hugs will be needed.
You will long for those moments you took for granted so long ago.
