Weekends on Rathdrum mountain come alive with the sound of dirtbikes, chances are, a junior at Lakeland High School (LHS) Titan Rogers, is in the mix.
Rogers has been revving engines since before he could tie shoes. Taught to ride dirtbikes by his dad at just 3 years old, this skill was the beginning of his favorite pastime.
“Riding is nostalgic and fun for me,” Rogers said.
Rain or shine, Rogers rides his GASGAS MC250 every weekend on the trails. It gets his mind off of school, or any other stressful things. Rogers owns 5 different bikes and likes to ride with his dad and friends who share the love for riding.
“Ive been friends with Titan for about 4 years,” Blaine Gilmore said, “he’s the best at riding out of all of us.”
Although, the fun of riding can have some downsides.
Rogers was on his bike one day, per usual. He was attempting to jump the road and make a perfect landing.
After many tries, and near perfect lands, Rogers was determined to stick the landing.
He decided to try it once more, as the bike was making its way down, the angle of the bike was slightly wrong. Enough to throw him off balance.
Rogers sprained his back, resulting in a month break of his favorite hobby.
This did not stop Rogers though, after his break which felt like forever. Rogers was back in the trails doing it once again
“I kept trying that jump and got it on the 4th try,” Rogers said.
“Weve been riding together for 3 or 4 years,” Gage Mcmurray said, “and he’s really progressed even with his back injury”
Looking into the future, Rogers has a goal to race motocross and plans to do so with persistent riding and perfecting his skills.
Injuries may slow him down, but they never stop him from what he loves doing most. These incidents remind him that with passion comes risk, and he’s willing to take that risk.
