New home, new adventures, and new memories.
Some people move all the time, but others stay in one place for a while until their kids graduate.
Kids who move while still in school, can make it tough on them, but for Terry Taylor it wasn’t.
Taylor is a junior at Lakeland High School. He is originally from West Virginia but moved to Idaho in 2017. However, he recently found out that he is moving again.
He came home from school like it was just another day but this time it wasn’t just another day for him.
His mom had asked him if he wanted to move to Missouri. Taylor was excited about new experiences and new opportunities, especially for baseball.
“Im excited to play baseball in Missouri because it brings new opportunities to play varsity for Jackson High School,” Taylor said.
Leaving the close friends he made, Joziah Koonce was one of his closest friends. They played football together in 5th grade and have been inseparable ever since then.
“I’m going to miss the fun times we had together and playing games together,” Junior Joziah Koonce said.
The struggle with teens moving is leaving their friends behind and starting over. Those people you grew up with and played sports with won’t be so close anymore. The challenge is making new friends but can be a good fresh start.
Some people don’t like changes. It can be hard for a teen to make a big change like moving across the country but can also open up new opportunities.
“Moving as a kid in high school changes the perspective of life.” Junior Payton Barker said, who moved from Oregon in 2020. “Starting over that late in your school career can be tough.” Barker added
Several kids move schools in the middle of the school year all the time. But it will open a whole new experience of life you will only live once.
“Some kids are good at making the most of it at a different school, but others struggle with the change,” Mr. Ballard said
As for Taylor, he is looking to make the best of his opportunities. Although he might be excited to move closer to his family again, he will miss his friends he has made here.
“I will miss my friends but can always make new friends at my new school,” Terry Taylor said.
