Lakeland High School (LHS) offers many extra circulars. How many are you in?
Hunter Avriett, one of LHS’s seniors, is in three at the school. He is the president of Lakelands Key Club, tight end and outside linebacker in football, and the catcher in baseball.
“I like to be involved in my school,” Avriett said.
Football and Baseball taught Avriett different things throughout his high school career. Football has taught him how to get yelled at and take criticism. Baseball taught him how to be a leader and communicate in tough situations.
He has been in the Key Club since his sophomore year.
He enjoys the opportunity to give back to his community and in his junior year got over 30 hours of volunteer work.
While being president, Avriett encourages attendance in the events and meetings. He is always willing to answer questions and help members in the club, new and old.
Outside of school Avriett shows cows for 4-H. He has been showing them for four years.
“My favorite part about showing cattle is the community that is there in the showing world,” Avriett said, “I have learned that it is okay to lose sometimes. You’re not always going to be a winner and there is always going to be someone better than you. You just gotta keep your head up and work harder.”
Avriett’s favorite cow that he had was his cow two years ago named Cheeks. He got his first banner with him.
“My favorite part of high school was being able to socialize with people I wouldn’t be able to outside of school,” Avriett said.
The biggest thing Avriett will take out of high school is his people skills and how to handle situations.
“The teacher that will leave the biggest impact on me is Mrs. Denise Novak, because she has taught me how to work through my issues whether it’s math, or anything outside of school,” Avriett said, “I think she’ll leave the most impactful impact on me.”
Avriett is going college to major in Business Administration and then go to law school to become a corporate lawyer.
“I wanna make a lot of money,” Avriett said, “I also always wanted to do something with law and my dad told me I couldn’t be a cop when I get older so I said I’ll do you one better and become a lawyer.”
