Did Lakeland win $5,000?
Yes.
How about $25,000?
Lakeland sure did.
Now, can Lakeland win $1,000,000?
Without a doubt.
Friday Night 5G Lights is a competition put on by T-Mobile. There are multiple rounds but each time the school gets through one round they are entered into the next one for the chance to win more money.
“It’s based on votes so if we can beat the other 24 schools,” Matt Neff the activities director at Lakeland High School said. “They are all rural too. The school that won it last year came from a town of 2,000. If they can win, we can win it.”
Lakeland High School is one out of 25 schools in the running to win $1,000,000.
“It is a million dollar Stadium makeover,” Robert Hardy, a representative with T-Mobile said. “We also bring custom designers to help you design the stadium and the weight room. Then the weight room gets upgraded by Gronk Fitness.”
Lakeland has made it this far thanks to Jacquie Neff, Lakeland Joint School District 272 media specialist, who put in so much work to share on social media; sharing every event that we had and winning Lakeland the $5,000 and $25,000 prizes.
“I would like to upgrade our entrance to the field,” Neff said. “Make it grander, show our mascot and our school pride.”
She can not do the $1,000,000 on her own; this is an event that Lakeland needs the community’s help.
“Everyone can vote once a day per email, so if you have three email accounts, you can vote on each account,” Neff said. “Also you can try and get everyone you know to vote every single day. Think big, think outside the box, do you know someone at college send them the link and ask them to ask their friends to vote.”
The voting will take place everyday until October 24th, every email can vote one time a day. The more people that vote the higher the chance of Lakeland High School getting a $1,000,000 upgrade to the football field, and a weight room makeover.
