Homecoming is one of the most chaotic yet exciting weeks on the high school calendar.
Spirit week, fundraising, the parade, the game, and finally the dance.
But, this year Lakeland High School’s (LHS) dance is September 13th, which is only the second week of school.
Students are rushing to stores to look for dresses while options are limited.
“Being a fall sport athlete, and having constant practice later in the afternoon, I have not been able to make it to any stores,” Alyssa Ryckman said, “Online stores will not ship in time, which makes it hard only having two weeks to prepare.”
One of the ways the date of the dance was communicated before school was using social media. But, what about the students who do not have social media?
Now they are struggling to get a dress or suit in time.
“Yes, it is too early,” Ryckman said, “I think it should be the end of September, because with it being so early people are still adjusting to the new year. It is too much to think about in a short period of time.”
With the dance being in the first two weeks, is there enough time to make plans for dance, and what about finding a date?
“I think it is too early because it does not give people a chance to meet each other,” Austin Hocking said.
Freshmen are still trying to get into the rhythm of all the classes and possibly sports.
On the other hand, freshmen get to start their first year of high school with one of LHS’s major events in the first two weeks.
“No, I do not think it is too early,” Kyra Jorgensen said, “I got my dress at Windsor at the mall. Our cheer routine is ready, we are still cleaning it up, but we know it.”
With multiple opinions on the time of homecoming, I believe this event is one that should have more planning and prepping, meaning it should be held in late September or early October.
