Every year hundreds of seniors graduate from Lakeland High School. And high schools do their best to make the seniors feel special and appreciated. However, every year there are students who tend to fly under the radar of the school’s attention.
“I didn’t do any school sports and had little friends, so I didn’t get noticed very often,” Adam Landin said.
Sometimes students are not as noticeable as others, much like a grey man. A grey man is known for blending into their environment.
A grey man is considered to be discrete and inconspicuous, one who does not stand out in a crowd. Yet, this does not mean that the grey man is without value or intrigue. This mostly means that the person does not draw attention to themself.
Some students may not be given the opportunity to be recognized for something that they have accomplished during their high school years much like the grey man.
These seniors are invisible and should be given the opportunity to be seen. Every senior is unique in some way and this may make it difficult to gain the recognition that they deserve; the senior’s awards night may be this opportunity.
Senior awards night honors the students who have received any scholarship or are joining the military.
Many people tend to change and develop considerably throughout their high school years.
They all worked diligently for different opportunities in the world one step at a time. Seniors every year write essays and/ or applications for scholarships in order to receive money to help with their lives as adults.
They are not tied down to one path and they were not tied down to one path in highschool either.
Throughout high school many social and nonsocial opportunities have become popular. Even if they did not participate in many of the school events that does not mean that they did not have an interesting high school experience.
Many high school students take up weight lifting and athletics to occupy some of their free time while doing something that encourages their health.
Many students indulge themselves in some kind of physical activity, and some of which they may not expect.
“I go to the gym after school, and then on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I play basketball with some friends,” Drew Harger said.
In addition most high schoolers, at some point, get a job to save money or have the ability to spend money freely. Many high school students use work as an outlet to prepare for the real world.
Work is a great opportunity for high school students to save money for college or any future career.
Some of these students may have even taken an unexpected leap in highschool that gave them the chance to do something that they may not have been able to do before.
“I realized that I didn’t have great friends at school, all they did was damage instead of helping me,” Landin said. “I shifted my interests to something better, and even began to research psychology.”
Whether it’s trying that little bit more in school or something more career related, they did what they could do.
However, many students still want to enjoy life before it gets too difficult.
Although some of these activities may not seem so outstanding, they allowed these seniors to work towards something.
Every senior should be known for doing something more than just sitting in a classroom for four years.
“The human spirit is more powerful than any drug – and that is what needs to be nourished: with work, play, friendship, family. These are the things that matter.” This quote by Robin Williams that embodies every piece of Drew Harger.
Harger is an incredibly active person, and who can blame him when there are so many things to enjoy?
There are hundreds of different sports in the world and Harger decided to try them ‘all’; from basketball to working out. In the end, the best part is the time spent playing and doing it all.
“When I’m not at the gym I do jiu jitsu,” Harger said. “So when I go there it honestly just feels good cause it sucks.”
Also, working out, and doing a continual amount of physical activities, strengthens both your mind and body — as Harger has experienced.
Although an active life is a great life, every person needs to find a space of peace; and Harger finds that music is his greatest outlet for this.
In addition, all of Harger combined creates an incredible person to meet and a very fascinating character.
Every senior goes on to do greater things and this includes Harger whose primary focus is fire fighting or EMT work, which will allow Harger to make the incredible impact in the world that he wants to achieve.
Adam Landin:
Adam Landin, the guy at Lakeland High School known for being a HUGE Star Wars fan.
Although Landin may come off as incredibly quiet, or possibly weird, he can be the best conversation to have an oddly specific conversation about any topic ever.
“He may be a little acoustic but he is my bro,” Zachary Clark, one of Landin’s close friends, said.
Landin can be the most hyper forced person in the room or the laziest, but either way he can be found doing something unexpected.
Less than three years ago, Landin made an incredible jump into a fascinating personality. His horizon of limitless possibilities became a reality.
Landin took up guitar, working out, 3D printing, and a detailed interest in cars in less than a couple months.
In addition, his interests never stopped growing. Originally he may have only explained every character in detail from a video game, while now he can have an hour long conversation about JDM cars, stocks, editing, and even car photography.
But you might find him melting over an adorable dog.
Everyone has a different path in life, and Landin’s changed dramatically while in high school. He may have once believed that he wouldn’t be able to have any importance in the world, but he has officially been accepted into BYU I and will make a greater change than he could ever imagine.
Cole Peterson:
A comforting and confident person is a great way to express how people might explain their interactions with Cole Peterson.
Peterson is a person whose main goal in life seems to be to enjoy and work it to its core.
Peterson does the most extravagant and honestly the coolest things you could imagine. He has focused his main hobbies into weightlifting, blacksmithing, welding, and why not spice it up with gaming.
“I think it was really fun to make my own tools, weapons, and that kind of thing,” Peterson said. “And weight lifting feels really good.”
People always need things that enhance their mind and body, but also encourage them to enjoy themselves when given any opportunity.
An unusual different opportunity comes and makes Peterson feel as his best: the rain.
The rain for many people can mean different things, but Peterson finds an uncanny amount of happiness in this kind of weather.
However, when it comes to needing to be something for the future, he finds no issue; he has that all planned out, as well.
With a little strong influence from his older brother, Peterson has found his way into the working world of plumbing– a most necessary career in anyone’s life.
In a world full of different people Jay Johnsen stands out through his creative hobby.
There are so many different activities that attract the attention of people, but the one that struck inspiration in Johnsen is designing clothes.
He sells and makes clothes just for fun, and honestly– why not?
This hobby may not be what he has completely devoted himself to, but that is not what a hobby has to be.
This may seem shocking to many people by the sound of it, however, Johnsen’s stellar style proves this to be so much more than understandable.
Johnsen never ceases to amaze people with his diverse list of hobbies.
“I like to listen to music and play golf,” Johnsen said.
His laid back and cool attitude towards the world makes his style so fitting than anything else.
He is “just a normal guy” who happens to have super cool style and an awesome, inviting attitude.
