Many people have been questioning the existence of ghosts for a long time.
Humans often try to blame certain events on supernatural beings, such as when a light flickers or a door slams shut.
The ongoing questioning of these supernatural beings has resulted in multiple “types” of ghosts being created and talked about.
Though they have similar traits, there are specific characteristics that distinguish them from each other.
Whether you believe in ghosts or not is completely up to you, but it doesn’t hurt to learn the different kinds that some people do believe in.
Spirits
One of the most common types of ghosts that you will likely find is the spirit.
In mythology and folklore, spirits are immaterial beings who are often invisible and don’t like showing themselves.
Spirits are often the lost souls of the dead, but can also be between gods and humans.
Most of the time, they act as messengers, guardians, or vengeful entities.
Guardian Spirits often protect specific locations like homes, people, or even objects
They are often fairly peaceful but can be aggressive and malicious.
Messenger Spirits act as messengers for angels or demons.
Hence the name, they will relay messages after death.
Vengeful Spirits are the worst spirits you can come across.
They come back from death with only one thing in mind: cruelty.
Vengeful Spirits will often do this due to revenge, an unjust death, or the lack of a proper burial.
Spirits can be both friendly and deadly, so just make sure to proceed with caution if you think you ever come across one.
Try and find its motive to decipher why it is there.
Poltergeists
Poltergeists are unique ghosts who are often very vocal and loud and enjoy throwing objects.
These ghosts are known to be able to throw multiple objects at once and over great distances as well.
These ghosts can inflict harm on humans, such as pinching, biting, hitting, and tripping.
Poltergeists originated from Germany, hence the name poltergeist, polter meaning rumble in German.
Poltergeists are seen as mischievous jesters who enjoy messing with humans.
If you come across a poltergeist, don’t be too worried, for they rarely ever harm people and mostly enjoy being tricksters.
This doesn’t mean to not be wary, though, because they are certainly capable of causing harm and should be approached with caution.
Demons
The most dangerous type of “ghost” is the demon.
Demons hunt for fun and have no remorse when hunting.
They are very malicious, wanting only to cause harm to humans and torture them both mentally and physically.
Demons come straight from hell and often only have violence on their mind.
They are vengeful and cruel, with no heart or soul left.
Demons, when haunting, will often drain their victim mentally and emotionally until the victim is weak enough to possess.
They do this to feel human again and to cause more harm as a possessed being.
Demons are very dangerous, and you should never try to contact one or mess with one because it can turn very bad for you.
That goes for all ghosts, honestly, do not try and contact them!
They are dead for a reason and should not be interacted with.
Mares
Mares also originated from Germany, and they are described as malicious entities that step on humans’ chests to cause nightmares, hence the English name “nightmare.”
Mares are huge fans of the dark as they do not like lights.
They enjoy lurking in the shadows, causing fear to rush through their victims.
Mares are also stronger in the darkness and will attack their victims less often when in the light.
Mares can also cause sleep paralysis among their victims.
Sleep paralysis is a state of your body is frozen, but you are still conscious.
These ghosts can still harm you, but often do it more emotionally than physically
This is just a small taste of all the different types of ghosts that there are.
There are many more types of ghosts that are all unique and special.
