Mother’s Day is a holiday celebrated by many countries around the world, Mother’s Day originated in the US back in 1908. The holiday was invented because of the death of Anna Jarvis’s mother when she wanted to honor her.
“A mother’s love is the sun for growing, the moon for dreaming, and the stars for guiding the way,” Barbara Loots said.
Anna Jarvis was born in 1864 in Taylor County, West Virginia. She was the ninth of eleven children, seven of her siblings died in early infancy or early childhood. Anna attended college with the encouragement of her mother, she graduated with a diploma of completion.
Mother’s Day is a holiday that is held very close to the hearts of mothers everywhere. It’s a day to show appreciation for the women that’s done the most for you.
Mother’s Day is what inspired Father’s Day. A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd, from Spokane, Washington thought that if mothers had a day of appreciation then fathers should as well. Father’s Day is on the third Sunday of June every year, the reason it’s in June is because the original day was on Sonora’s father’s birthday.
In my opinion Anna Jarvis was the woman who invented Mothers and Fathers Day, because if it wasn’t for Anna inventing Mother’s Day, Father’s Day would have not been invented.
Families have their own traditions for each holiday and that’s what makes it special to them. I think a good tradition is to do whatever your mother or father wants to do, after all it is their day. If my mother wanted to just stay home and relax then I would stay home and relax and watch a movie with her, it’s the same for my father. Whatever they want to do for the day is what we do.
If you don’t know a way to show your appreciation to your Mother or Father on their day than here are some suggestions, You could take them out for breakfast or dinner, sit and tell the good memories you have with them, or just show them how much they mean to you and how much you appreciate them, because if it wasn’t for them you wouldn’t be on this earth today.
Happy Mother’s Day and Father’s Day to all the parents out there.
