Are they truly terrifying cryptids who lurk in the woods and are good at hide-and-seek?
Or are they simply tales made up by confused people who hear and see unexplainable things and feel obligated to spread false information?
I’m not the only one curious about Bigfoot’s existence.
People have dedicated their lives to proving whether or not bigfoot is real. They call themselves squatchers.
We do not know exactly where Bigfoot originates from, but we know that it has roots in both Native American culture and more recent, modern culture.
Although It would be nearly impossible to pinpoint exactly where Bigfoot truly originated, if we look into the Native American belief of Tsonoqua, we will find an old story told to the children of certain Native American tribes, explaining a gigantic, hairy, two-legged creature that hunts and steals children.
Was this an actual story that the Natives believed or was it simply a story used to scare their children into staying in camp? Or was it more of a horror story sort of like the boogeyman.
The actual bigfoot story that some people believe in today started around 1958 when loggers in Northern California started making reports of gigantic, human like footprints.
This all happened in a very famous town, infamous for Bigfoot activity; Willow Creek, California.
Willow Creek is considered the “Bigfoot Capital of the World”
The modern origins likely started after a journalist named Andrew Genzoli wrote about the letters he received from the loggers who found the gigantic footprints.
Genzoli originally took this story very lightly, almost in a joking way but it gained so much attraction amongst the community that it just skyrocketed.
He even claimed that we might have our own version of the abominable snowman.
Genzoli and some other Humboldt Times journalists then followed up with more stories about the footprints.
This continued and spread and then boom, Bigfoot was a legend among the people of North America.
Now that we are done with the origins of Bigfoot, let’s dive into supposed sightings.
Going back to the Capital of Bigfoot, Willow Creek, one of the most famous pieces of evidence of bigfoot was created: “The Patterson-Gimlin Film”
This footage shows an old grainy recording of “Bigfoot” strolling through the forest. Some people believe this to be undeniable proof of Bigfoot and some believe that it is simply a man in a monkey or gorilla costume.
Kootenai County Bigfoot Sightings:
(ALL INFO FOUND ON THE BIGFOOT FIELD RESEARCHERS ORGANIZATION WEBSITE) BFRO
I looked into a couple local reports from people who have claimed to see Bigfoot. I did this using the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organizations website and read the stories provided by people who have claimed to have witnessed Bigfoot in Idaho. I will give my input and insight depending on the integrity and believability of the story.
This report takes place in 2010 in Kootenai County Idaho during summer in the month of June. It happened about 10 miles south of Coeur d’Alene and 5 miles west of Hwy 95. The original witness is named Donna, S.
“My 14 year old daughter and her friend were quadding in the woods behind our property which are owned by timber companies. They came upon a large footprint on the timber trail. It had rained a couple of days prior to this. They took some pictures with their phones and with my daughter’s friend’s foot next to it. My daughter took me up there and we saw more prints coming down the hillside to the trail and crossing it into the cedars. “ Donna S, witness to Bigfoot
This is a very simple and common story among people who say they have witnessed Bigfoot or at least evidence of Bigfoot.
I believe that it is definitely weird and out of the ordinary that there were huge footprints found in the woods and it definitely sparks some questions. Due to it raining a couple days prior to the discovery, a human could have made a footprint that somehow got squished in the mud and was made to look like a gigantic footprint. Also the fact that they claim they took a photo yet failed to provide proof of that photo is also suspicious. But at the end of the day I don’t think it is bad evidence, because I can’t think of anything else that would explain a gigantic footprint in the middle of the woods.
This report takes place in 2008 in Kootenai County Idaho during the month of May around spring time. This took place in Farragut Park, near Athol.
“I used to regularly camp in the Whitetail Campground in Farragut State Park near Athol, Idaho. It is especially peaceful during the offseason and I used to like to camp there on weekends from about early May to mid-June. During these times it is dead quiet at night and I heard wood knocks several times. It was dead quiet in the campground and we both woke to the sound of a large animal walking through the brush, loudly breaking branches as it stepped on them. We both thought it sounded like it was bipedal and I thought it was a very large man. The animal was in our site. It brushed against the tent as it walked past. We looked out the tent window and shined a flashlight around but we couldn’t see anything. It was quiet then, and we assumed that whatever it was had kept going. We turned out the light and got back in bed. A few minutes later the animal walked back out of the campground the same way it came in – it just stood quietly when we were shining the flashlight. When we got up in the morning all of the mushrooms were gone. I don’t think it was a bear, unless it was a very large one (there are no grizzlies in that area), and I thought that the stride length was much longer than a bear’s.” Bryn Harmon, witness of Bigfoot
This is a good experience, and I believe that it holds great value in finding the truth of bigfoot’s existence.
Bryn, the witness, claimed to have heard several knocks when spending a few nights in the park. Although the sounds could have been a plethora of other animals, it would be unfair to take Bigfoot out of that mix.
In conclusion I believe it’s hard to come up with a definitive answer on whether or not Bigfoot exists.
There is not a lot of evidence to back his existence up, but there is also enough evidence to not cancel him out.
I will stay undetermined on Bigfoot’s existence due to lack of evidence but also enough evidence for him to exist.
