In the revolving cycle of fashion, what’s old is constantly becoming new again, and the end of an era often starts the rise of a new one. The only thing with these eras is the fact that they always come back like clockwork. One fashion trend that has come crawling back through the trenches these past couple of years is the typical Y2K prints like cheetah.
The old style of the 2000s is often remembered for its low-rise jeans, bold prints, and chaotic layering. While it was thrown out a couple of years ago and evolved into something more, it has slowly started to come back louder and bolder than ever.
New fabs of cheetah print like tanks, short sleeves, and even prom dresses have hit the TikTok world and taken off.
Weather or not cheetah print should be back is a highly opinionated topic. I personally am conflicted with the idea. I do not necessarily like the idea of it, but some people do honestly pull it off well.
The other part that conflicts me is how far it goes. Like the pants and prom dresses are a bit far. The tanks look good with some outfits and on some people, but I certainly do not think it is for everyone. I would not wear it and I definitely do not pull it off.
While this is my opinion on the topic some others have slightly more general opinions.
Serifina Aldrich, a sophmore at Lakeland High School, personally thinks that it should make a comeback.
“I have not seen a lot of it, but I think it should come back; I have not seen it worn bad and most people actually style it well,” Aldrich said.
Along with Cheetah print coming back Aldrich thinks that zebra would be a good print to bring back into todays fashion also.
“It is a really pretty print and I think it is underused; I used to wear a lot of it in middle school for a long time which was pretty funny,” Aldrich said.
While Aldrich is for these prints and this style coming back she would also like to see more of people’s personalities in their outfits.
“A lot of the fashion trends now are dark and sad, I want to see people really show off who they are through their clothing,” Aldrich said.
Aldrich dresses with style that shows off her bold and bright personalty which can tell you exactly who she is in a second and it also makes her approachable and unique.
While Aldrich has an opinion that is definetly for the side of this style coming back, Stormy Lawson, also a sophomore from Lakeland, is also conflicted.
Lawson does not mind the style making a comeback, but is hoping that it is not spread too far.
“It is ok with certain things, but I just hope they do not bring aback the pants,” Lawson said.
Lawson feels that as long as this style does not come back too strong it has potential.
“I feel like their is a lot of influence from liek 80s music and movies; things like that which are bringing the style back,” Lawson said.
Lawson is not a huge fashion critique but she does feel that it is more of a recycling thing and has not much changed.
“I think we tend to take things from previous generations and turn them into something different,” Lawson said.
A fashion trend that Lawson would like to see come back is the 20s or 40s style dresses.
“They were so gorgeous, and just bright and cheerful,” Lawson said.
While there are a lot of opinions on the matter of if this style should come back or be dumped back into the trash, one thing that is no lie is that social media definitely has a lot of influence on our style today.
The trend of bringing cheetah print back started through TikTok and arose as people started to realize just how much they liked it. Some may have even found there style through it.
With apps like Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and many more, it is not hard to find a style that fits just for you and get outfit ideas off of the media.
Even if it is just a post from someone’s feed and you like what they happen to be wearing.
While style is a constant cycle of arising and falling trends it is almost certain that nothing will ever actually go “out of style” as we say, for their will always be someone who sticks to it and enjoys it.
